earth. An inviting place for a frolic, if it had not been for the

number of poisonous adders of which the travellers spoke; they also

mentioned that the place had formerly been infested with wolves, and

old man who was driving the oxen told them that in the lifetime of his

father the horses had many a hard battle with the wild beasts that

were now exterminated. One morning, when he himself had gone out to

bring in the horses, he found one of them standing with its forefeet

on a wolf it had killed, but the savage animal had torn and

lacerated the brave horse's legs.

    The journey over the heath and the deep sand was only too

quickly at an end. They stopped before the house of mourning, where

riches unknown to him until now; for flowers, blackberries, and

they were crushed beneath the tread of passers-by the heather was

Then columns of smoke rose into the still air; it was a heath fire,

they told him- how brightly it blazed in the dark evening!

come back again,' repeated the mother eel. 'But he drank brandy

after them,' said the daughters. 'Ah, then they'll never come back,'

splendour of Jutland, all the happiness and sunshine of his home, were

concentrated in these. He went to a festival, but it was a burial

feast.

    A rich relation of the fisherman's family had died; the farm was

situated far eastward in the country and a little towards the north.

Jurgen's foster parents went there, and he also went with them from

the dunes, over heath and moor, where the Skjaerumaa takes its

course through green meadows and contains many eels; mother eels

Elizabeth Homan, the school's director of communications, said the class "does not take a stance on the Occupy movement. Rather, the movement provides a creative opportunity for students to discuss protests throughout history, as well as current events, definitions, and various processes that can be used to voice opinions in the community."
The class, however, is a standout among the academic courses offered for the season.
Other new classes being offered for the summer 2012 session include "3D Geometry -- Let's Build a City," "Be a Nurse or Just Work with One," "Battle-Bot Build-a-Thon," "Be a Real Life Investigative Reporter," "Chemical Wizardry," "Diggin' for Dinosaurs Rockin' Rocks and Crystal Creations," "Junkyard Warriors," "Game Building Software," "Passion for Fashion," and "Your Doll and You," among others.
Homan said the class is a noncredit program that is two weeks in length, and is designed for high school students who take AP/honors classes.
"The class is a hybrid of history and current events. Students will learn about protests throughout history, as well as the current events of today. They will participate in role-playing, read newspapers, and learn how people voice opinions in the community," Homan said in an email to FoxNews.com.
The Occupy MoCo! class costs $190 for 10 three-hour sessions. Homan said tuition covers the cost of the class, which is being taught by a part-time summer youth instructor. Homan said there will be no homework or field trips.
"Everything will take place in the classroom," she said.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin pledges more defense spending

OSCOW –  With less than two weeks until elections, Russian Prime Minister and presidential candidate Vladimir Putin pledged to spend 23 trillion rubles ($770 billion) on strengthening the country's army over the next 10 years, the Kremlin's biggest military spending spree since the Cold War.
Putin vowed to deliver an "effective and asymmetrical response" to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's plan to cast a missile-defense shield over Europe while thoroughly overhauling the army's ability to confront modern threats. If approved, the program would tack on more than $120 billion to a $650 billion defense-spending increase pushed through last year, even though a top official warned it may push Russia's budget past its breaking point.
"It's obvious we won't be able to develop our international position, our economy or democratic institutions if we cannot defend Russia," Putin wrote in an article for the government-owned Rossiiskaya Gazeta newspaper. "We must not tempt anyone with our weakness."
The manifesto is the sixth in a series of pre-election articles Putin has published in recent weeks. Putin -- a former KGB spy who has tried to project himself as a strong leader and bulwark of Russian stability -- is expected to win presidential elections scheduled for March 4, despite months of large antigovernment protests.

Syrian army reinforcements head to Homs ahead of suspected offensive

  Syria's military sent tanks and other reinforcements toward the restive central city of Homs on Monday in what appears to be preparations by President Bashar Assad's regime for an offensive aimed at retaking rebel-held neighborhoods, activists said.Syria-based activist Mustafa Osso told The Associated Press he does not think the regime will be able to retake Homs through military force as residents plan to fight until "the last person." He added that Homs is facing "savage shelling that does not differentiate between military or civilians targets."Rami Abdul-Rahman, who heads the Britain-based activist group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said he expects the regime to try retake the Baba Amr district of Homs. Many Syrians call Baba Amr "Syria's Misrata," a reference to the Libyan city where rebels fought off a brutal government siege for weeks, managed to hold the city and went on to play a key role in overthrowing dictator Muammar Qaddafi last year.
